Quick Start Guide

Welcome to Solitaire City! If you don't have time for instructions then press the Play button at the bottom left of the screen to start a game of Klondike. You can return to this guide at any time from the Settings screen. For those with more patience, please take a few minutes to read the following info to familiarize yourself with the App.
Choosing a Different Solitaire Game
Klondike is the default solitaire game. However there are many more to enjoy. Just place your finger on the list of games and slide the table up and down to reveal many more!

To get to this screen while you're playing a game, press the Settings icon in the top left hand corner of the screen then select "Change Game". If you're at the Hi-Scores screen then press the "< Games" button in the top left hand corner.
Choosing a Different Game Rule
Each solitaire game has several Rule variations. For example, Klondike Rule 1 deals 1 card at a time and Klondike Rule 2 deals 3. As with the game selection, if there are more rules than fit in the window, simply place your finger on the list of Rules and slide the table up and down to reveal more.

If you're looking for Three Shuffles and a Draw, La Belle Lucie, Super Flower Garden etc, then you'll find them under Fan Games as separate Rules.

Starting a Game
Once you've selected your desired Game and Rule number, press the "Play" button at the bottom of the screen to start a game.

If you've never played that particular solitaire game before then you'll be asked if you want to be taught the rules of the game in an interactive training mode. You can also select this mode by pressing the "Training" button to start a game.

Tap To Move Controls

There are two different ways to move cards in Solitaire City - tapping and dragging. Tap on a card that you want to move and it will turn grey. Tap on where you want it to move to and it will jump there. You can turn Tap To Move controls off from the Solitaire City Settings screen if you prefer to drag cards around.

Dragging Cards

You may also touch a card and drag it to another location. If the move is valid then the new position will highlight blue and when you remove your finger from the card it will jump to the new location.

Scoring
Solitaire City is played against the clock for points. The faster you complete a game, the higher your score. Most games will display a timer and your score on the screen during play. As each second ticks by, your score counts down. You'll gain additional points for making constructive moves but your score will always be ticking down with each second so try to make moves as fast as you can! If you manage to complete the game then you'll be awarded a bonus based on your final score and total time taken. If you swipe to the bottom of the list of Rules, you'll find information about the current game's scoring rules:

Timed scoring isn't for everyone! Sometimes you might like to just play a relaxing game of solitaire without the pressure of a timer ticking away in your face. If the button at the bottom of the main menu screens says "Scoring On" then the games will be scored with a timer. Press the button and it will change to "Scoring Off" and you can relax.

My Scores (Local Hi-Scores)
Your best scores are stored in a number of "Hi-Score Tables" also known as "Leaderboards". To see them, press the "Hi-Scores" button at the top right of the Game Selection screen.

My Scores (Local Hi-Scores) are stored on your device and aren't shared with anyone else and although they are filled with the names and scores of various people, these names are fictitious and have been created simply to give you scores to beat. There is a unique Hi-Score table containing 15 people for every single Game and Rule combination.

Are you sure these people aren't real?

If you press the "Reset" button in the top right hand corner of the My Scores screen then you can reset the scores back to their default values and names or to zeros with empty names.

Game Center Online Leaderboards
Solitaire City uses Apple's Game Center service to submit your scores to online leaderboards so you can see how they compare with players from all around The World. If you have friends who play Solitaire City then you can add them to your Game Center list of friends and see their best scores too. If you already have a Game Center account then simply login when you start Solitaire City (you usually only have to do this once) and everything will happen automatically after that. If you never use Game Center and don't want to be bothered by the login process then go to the Solitaire City Settings screen and disable it.

Your Game Center "Nickname" will appear next to your Game Center scores. You may also select your country's flag from the Settings screen if you're feeling particularly patriotic. Please note, that when you achieve a great score and you're asked to type in your name; that name will only appear on your Local score tables. Your Game Center Nickname will always appear on your Game Center leaderboards.
Settings Screen
There are plenty of options to play around with from the Settings screen. You can select a different background image, use your device's camera to create a custom background, choose a different card set or change the sound effects among other things.

Special Controls

Three Shuffles and a Draw
Tap on one of the buried cards in a fan to open it up for better viewing. If you have a Draw remaining then the cards you can draw will be highlighted in blue.
To Draw a card to the top of the fan, tap on one of the blue highlighted cards.
Demon
If you forget which rank of card was dealt first to form the base of the foundations, touch the foundation pile and the base card will be revealed.
Frequently Asked Questions
If you find yourself accidentally pressing the "New" button during mid game excitement, then you can turn "Confirm New / End" On from the Settings screen. You will then be asked to confirm your intentions when pressing the "New" or "End" buttons.

If the game gets to a point where it's obviously been won then a chequered flag will appear that you can press to auto-complete the game. There is a scoring penalty for using this so if you want to get the big scores then you should tap on each card manually to send them to the foundations.

If one of the sound effects really annoys you then you can change it by creating a Custom Sound Theme. From the Settings screen, select Sound Theme.

Then press then "New" button in the top right corner to clone the currently selected Sound Theme.

Finally, tap the Pencil icon to edit the individual sounds and select something more pleasing to your ears.
